Decks, Lockers & Seats

All the decks were in extremely poor condition. They all leaked and needed immediate attention.

The large grey area on the upper deck was removed and a new multi layer covering applied.This work effectively sealed all the are above the saloon and foyer and made it water tight.

At the same time all the upper deck hand rails were removed and the upper deck completely re-caulked. The caulking was done properly with all the old Sika removed, the joints were then routed to expose new wood, they were then cleaned with acetone, bond breaking tape inserted and new black Sikaflex 900i inserted. This was left to cure and was then sanded back to bare wood.Deck Seats and Lockers00067

The deck was then coated  with Awlwood yellow followed by 5 coats of Awlwood gloss. There are still another 7 coats of gloss needed to complete the job. Light sanding between coats.

The main deck was treated in the same way as was the top rear deck and the rear bottom deck.
All decks are now waterproof and properly caulked.

All the hand rails were removed and the stanchions replaced with stainless steel. The hand rails were sanded and repaired as necessary and coated with Awlwood gloss.
The old full length white bench seats on either side of the main cabin on the main deck were removed and replaced with new bench seats constructed with stainless steel frames and WA Jarrah timbers.
These were then sanded and 12 coats of Awlwood gloss applied.

The internal gunwales were stripped of paint, made watertight, sanded, sealed with two pack epoxy and repainted. All external non-SS steel fittings were treated with the ‘Kill Rust’ process.

The deck lockers adjacent to the main mast have had all the old paint removed and thoroughly cleaned and sanded. They were then lined with fibreglass to ensure a water tight finish. New drainage holes have been made at either end of the lockers to allow free draining of the whole area.

The rear upper deck seats and lockers were sanded, made watertight then sealed with two pack epoxy and repainted.

More work needs to be done on the upper aft deck in the future.
